What is it Like to be Coached?

Coaching is like having someone else on your side, making sure that you are focused on what's most important in your life.

Coaching is not giving advice, and it does not involve your coach telling you what to do. Instead, your coach asks you questions that prompt you to consider alternatives you haven't considered, and encourage you to take new perspectives. Your coach's purpose is to get you to an "ah ha!" realization, an eureka moment. Your coach asks questions until you exclaim in wonder, "I can't believe it never dawned on me ask myself that. Now I know what to do next." You come to new clarity about your life and purpose.

Then you and your coach really get down to business and design what to do next. Maybe you want to schedule time to pursue a new idea and cut some less important items out of your schedule. Or maybe you want to try a new tactic with a friend or colleague. Whatever it is, together with your coach, you will make sure you have all the structures in place so that what is most important in your life gets done each week.

What is the Difference Between Coaching and Therapy?

Coaching is not therapy and works best with high achieving individuals. Coaching and therapy are both potentially powerful methods that are used for different purposes with different individuals.

Some our clients are also in therapy. They do not find the two methods to be redundant, in fact, they get different benefits from the two methods. Therapy focuses on healing; coaching focuses on achieving. Therapy focuses on the past and present; coaching focuses on the present and future. Therapy is about insights; coaching is about insights and action. Therapy fixes problems; coaching achieves goals. Therapy asks, "Why?" and coaching asks, "What's next?" In therapy the therapist is the expert and the one in charge. In coaching, you, the client, are the expert and you are in charge.

Medical Questions and Diagnosis

Coaching and consulting are not medical services. We do not offer diagnosis, cannot answer questions about heredity, and do not give advice regarding medication or other medical procedures. If you are questioning the advice of your doctor or psychologist, we encourage you to persistently seek professionals whose approach makes sense to you.
